Maryland Winds is pleased to announce our latest educational outreach initiative. Our chamber ensembles are busy recording examples of great repertoire that we can offer as teaching modules. Offered as a component of our partnership with the Howard County Public School System, the package includes a video introduction to the piece by a member of the ensemble, and a follow-up ZOOM conversation with an ensemble member and the Maryland Winds Artistic Director, Timothy Holtan.
The introduction will include background information about the piece, the composer, style, and some guiding ideas to focus listening. The post-performance conversation will discuss what the students were able to discern from the piece, and hopefully build on their knowledge-base of style, critical listening and performance techniques.
In addition these online video workshops, Maryland Winds can provide master classes, sectional, and full band clinics in conjunction with rehearsals and performances at schools hosting our concerts. We hope that by engaging with our professionals, we can assist teachers in achieving their goals, and helping students and ensembles reach their full potential.
Directors interested in utilizing these modules should contact our Education Director, Ginger Turner at: Education@marylandwinds.com.
