Kelvin Ying currently serves as the pianist for the Concert Band and Soldiers’ Chorus of the United States Army Field Band. Before joining the Field Band, he was a young artist for Virginia Opera and Pensacola Opera, serving as the rehearsal pianist for mainstage productions of Aida, La Cenerentola, Florencia en el Amazonas, and Roméo et Juliette. He also performed as as the pianist and host for showcase concerts and educational outreach tours.
An avid vocal coach and accompanist-teacher, Kelvin maintains an active accompanying studio in Catonsville, MD. He enjoys collaborating with vocalists and instrumentalists of all levels, preparing musicians for festivals, recitals, and auditions.
Kelvin received his MM in collaborative piano from UT-Knoxville, where he was the accompanist, coach, and assistant conductor for productions of The Crucible, Le Nozze di Figaro, and Middlemarch in Spring. He received his BM in piano performance from UW-Madison. His primary piano teachers include Kevin Class and Martha Fischer. His primary conducting teacher is Jonathan Brett.
