Allison Yacoub – Clarinet

Dr. Allison Yacoub is a Lecturer of Music at Morgan State University, where she teaches Applied Clarinet, Music Theory, Woodwind Methods, and World of Music. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Clarinet Performance from University of Maryland, College Park, as well as Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Music Education from Towson University. Dr. Yacoub has studied with Edward Palanker, Dr. Marguerite Levin and Edward Walters.

Her passion for non-Western music led her to complete the dissertation entitled, Compositions for Clarinet Influenced by Non-Western European Musical Traditions. These recitals featured works for clarinet inspired by the sounds of Japan, China, Bali, India, Nairobi, Israel, Egypt, Argentina, Brazil, and Venezuela. Dr. Yacoub has participated in SilkRoad’s Global Musician’s Workshop held at DePauw University, and has been a featured guest artist with Towson University’s World Music Ensemble.

Dr. Yacoub has over 10 years of experience in higher education, and has also taught within the music departments of Towson University and Howard Community College. As a clinician and adjudicator, Dr. Yacoub has evaluated performances for events such as the Music Teachers National Association’s Eastern Division Music Competition and the International Clarinet Association’s High School Competition.
