Peter Czekaj – Trumpet

Peter Czekaj

Peter is a retired trumpet instrumentalist and audio engineer from The US Navy Band (26yrs). While attending the University of Buffalo he studied with David Kuehn of the Buffalo Philharmonic and earned an undergraduate degree in trumpet performance. For summer breaks while in college, Peter studied at the Brevard Music Center and was selected as principal trumpet of the repertory orchestra for two consecutive years. After finishing his degree, he enlisted in the Navy Music Program. At his first duty station in Naples Italy, he played lead trumpet for the Sixth Fleet Show Band, later transferring to San Francisco to play lead for The Show Band West (same band Mike Vax played in). While in San Francisco he expanded into Sound Engineering which ultimately led to his selection for assignment to The Navy Band in Washington DC as Audio Engineer and trumpet player.

Peter has played with the Amherst Symphony Orchestra, Buffalo Civic Symphony, Navy Band Commodores, and Soul Mission (Rock & Soul Band). With a background in commercial and classical music, Peter is a great asset to the Maryland Winds trumpet section. Other teachers Peter has studied with are, Wayne Linehan, Brian Lewis, Charlie Matheson, and Robert Dorer.
