Audrey Cupples

From 1988 until her retirement in 2014, Audrey Cupples was the first and only woman saxophonist in “The President’s Own,” United States Marine Band.

A graduate of the Eastman School of Music and a recipient of the prestigious Performer’s Certificate, she played principal saxophone with the Eastman Wind Ensemble on Wynton Marsalis’ Grammy-nominated album, “Carnaval.” While working in the Marine Band, Audrey earned her master’s degree in music, and her Doctor of Musical Arts, both from the University of Maryland, College Park.

“Sunshine and Tears,” her first solo album, was favorably reviewed by Al Gallodoro in the “Saxophone Journal,” where she later gave an in-depth interview and was featured on the front cover. Audrey is a lifetime member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi and was asked to write an article about her experiences performing for various Presidents of the United States which was published in an issue of “Phi Kappa Phi Forum.” As a Yamaha Artist, she has written articles for the Yamaha Educators Series and has presented recitals, masterclasses, and clinics across the country.

To date, Dr. Cupples continues to perform with various ensembles across the Washington D.C. area, share her knowledge with students of any age, and create beautiful arrangements for various saxophone ensembles.
